Our Priorities

This project, which will physically connect the current Concord Free Public Library with its recently-acquired 151 Main Street location, will create new, exciting spaces that meet growing demand for gathering, collaborative learning, and conversation for everyone, in every age group in Concord.

We’ll create a new, more flexible Children’s Library to accommodate increasingly varied programming and interactive learning spaces, as well as plentiful quiet, cozy reading nooks. Young people will hang out and work together in a larger, more comfortable and more attractive Teen Space.

It will feature The Commons, an atrium that will serve as a vibrant gathering place for sharing coffee and conversation with friends. Expanded Gathering Spaces and new Meeting Rooms will satisfy the significantly under-served demand for library and community events and furnish flexible space for programs, classes and groups.

Special Collections, Concord’s treasure trove of community archives, scholarship, history, and art, will benefit from enhancements for collection management, security, displays, and research work space. Beloved Historic Rooms and alcoves for reading and quiet reflection will be preserved and protected.

Together, we have the opportunity to make a lasting investment, not only in the future of our library, but the future of our community. By creating a more dynamic environment for connecting people with ideas, our history, the future, and each other, we will ensure that The Heart of Concord will sustain community education, activity, and cohesiveness for countless generations to come.
