The Munroe Gallery
The Munroe Gallery is a welcoming space that is used for both Special Collections exhibitions and shows by community artists. Located within the Main Library with access from the Rotunda, the gallery reflects the Library’s long-standing commitment to integrating art with learning and community life. Through changing exhibits and open calls to artists, the Munroe Gallery invites visitors to engage with visual arts as an accessible and enriching part of the library experience.
The art gallery was added as part of the 1933 Library renovation and expansion, and the renowned illustrator, N.C. Wyeth was one of the first artists to display his work.
In 2023, through gifts from generous donors, a renovation project improved the lighting, provided hanging systems, and added secure and accessible display cases. The Library Corporation Trustees named the gallery after the Library’s founder, William Munroe, whose original vision for the Library included exhibition space for art.
